What is a Dr.Web key file and where can I find it?

A key file is a special file that contains a list of allowed software components and the the term of a license. The file has the .key extension and can be found in the installation directory of a Dr.Web anti-virus (in Windows it is typically C:\Program Files\DrWeb\drweb32.key).

I’m having the following message: “The validity of your key file has not started yet”

It happens if the system date turns out to be earlier than the date when the key file was created. Set a correct day, month and year in your system and reboot the machine. In Windows you can use Date And Time in the Control Panel to set a correct date. If this doesn’t help, please contact our support service.

How do I replace a demo-key with a license key file?

If you have already purchased a license and registered your Dr.Web serial number: delete the Dr.Web demo key file – it is called drwdemo.key - from the DrWeb installation directory and restart your computer.

You can’t use one key file to run Dr.Web on two computers simultaneously but you can move the file to another machine. Copy a key file (drweb32.key) from the installation directory (the default location is C:\Program Files\DrWeb) to the directory of the anti-virus on another PC. You have to delete the key file on your old PC after copying it.

Where can I see the expiration date of my license for Dr.Web?

If you are a user of Dr.Web anti-virus for Windows you can see the expiration date among other license information in the right upper corner of “My Dr.Web” web-page. Users of other Dr.Web products can right-click on the icon of SpIDer Guard and select “About” in the context menu.

When does the term of the license for Dr.Web begin?

Validity of your license starts as soon as you register. If you purchased a renewal license it can be registered at any moment. The rim of your previous license *if still valid) can be added to the tern of the new renewal license.

I bought a Dr.Web anti-virus in a box. But it contains the anti-virus version 4.33 while according to your web-site the latest is 4.44. How do I update?

The problem lies in the settings of Outlook Express. By default, it does not allow to open or run attachments. The Dr.Web key file is sent to users via e-mail as the attached archive and modern viruses usually come to computers of users in archives.

To save the received attachment with Dr.Web key file, select Tools/ Security tab in the Outlook Express menu and uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved..." box. Press the Ok button.
